Nurseries under threat in West Lothian

In early September, Education Officers revealed they wanted to begin a public consultation on the future of nine early learning centres across West Lothian. This news came as a complete shock to Elected Members as it had not been through the usual scrutiny process.

Questions have also been raised concerning the data sets being used to identify those centres under threat of closure. Elected Members have been meeting with Education Officers to try and understand the justifications for the nine centres that have been selected.

Councillor Sally Pattle says:

“Following my meeting with Head of Early Years Education Greg Welsh, I do understand in greater detail why Linlithgow Bridge Primary School Nursery Class has been included in the public consultation. However, I remain unconvinced that the alternatives being proposed by the council will suit every parent.

"It is my job to represent the views of the community and that is what I plan to do throughout this process. I urge everyone who will be affected by the proposed closure to complete the consultation because at the end of the day if the council aren’t made aware of the level of opposition to the plans, they will be able to go ahead and close the centres under threat.”

The consultation process is open now and will close on Friday 1st November. To find out more about the nine centres included in the proposal, and to complete the consultation process, please follow the link here.
